Property in Chamonix, the New Flégère Skilift

The time has come for a new Flégère skilift and so it will be. Back in the day, cable cars were the thing. Nowadays everyone prefers a gondola for comfort, space and getting to the top in good time.

In service since 1953, its time has come. Part of the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc €477m upgrade program, the new gondola will whisk 2,000 passengers per hour to the mid-station, over three times as many as the old cable car. Each of the 41 gondolas fits 10 passengers compared with 60 in the single cable car. The stations at the top and bottom will be entirely renewed. Construction starts in May 2019 and is due for completion for the 2019-20 season. There is talk of turning the old station at the top into a restaurant or boutique hotel, and adding an après-ski bar, no doubt with epic views and afternoon sun!

Good news, a ‘shot in the arm’ for Les Praz. Property owners and visitors will benefit from vastly improved access to the main ski area of Chamonix, on their doorstep, since most parts of the village are within a 5 minute walk to the lift.

According to Montenius Consult, Brévent-Flégère has 47km of runs, 165ha of groomed terrain and a skiable vertical of 1,479m from the top at 2,525m. Most of the terrain is above 2000m, and on the sunny side of the valley. It can also be accessed from Chamonix itself, there is also a new Parsa chairlift on the Brévent side, which is much more efficient and eliminates a bottleneck there at certain times of day. On the same lift-pass, skiers based in Les Praz are also closer to Grands Montets. And for the summer, all the activities in the valley are there too and Les Praz is right next to the lovely Les Bois golf course; there are some beautiful hikes up La Flégère, like the very popular walk to the stunning Lac Blanc.
